OMPW Hosts Its First Chief Residents Workshop

The Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) sponsored its first Chief Residents Workshop on May 2, 2023 at Courtyard by Marriott Hattiesburg in Hattiesburg, MS and May 9, 2023 at Hotel Tupelo in Tupelo, MS.The workshop provided two locations that would best accommodate Chief Residents in North and South Mississippi. This workshop was designed to help prepare Chief Residents enter into their new position with fresh eyes and the means to develop their leadership abilities throughout the duration of their role.

The workshop was held in collaboration with Claude Brunson, MD, Executive Director, Mississippi State Medical Association; Teresa Camp-Rogers, MD, ESO Consulting LLC; Gretchen Holmes, PhD, Designated Institutional Official at Memorial Hospital Gulfport; Shirley Schlessinger, MD, Professor Emeritus, University of Mississippi Medical Center; Melissa Chan, MD, Perioperative Services of Mississippi; and Iesha Smith, LPC, University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Topics included: Critical Thinking, Crucial Conversations,Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Conflict Management, Mindfulness/Health &Wellness, Leadership Skills, and How to lead Scholarly Activity.
