Recap of The OMPW 2024 Annual Chief Residents Workshop

The Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) held its 2024 Annual Chief Residents Workshop Friday, April 26, 2024 at Hyatt Place in Ridgeland, Mississippi. This year we included an evening of networking amongst the Chiefs which took place Thursday, April 25, 2024. The workshop was designed for Chief Residents who are about to take on new responsibilities as leaders. The interactive sessions were intended to provide incoming chiefs with a learning environment that enhances their confidence as leaders, fosters interpersonal communication, enhance group cohesiveness, and advances the programs' educational mission. Our amazing speakers challenged the Chiefs to think and act strategically, and used creative solutions to tackle challenging managerial scenarios. Read More

2024 Spring Graduate Medical Education Summit

The Office Of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) will hosted its 2024 Spring Graduate Medical Education (GME) Summit on March 22, 2024 at The River Hills Club in Jackson, MS. We gathered Graduate Medical Education Experts, Champions & Learners to discuss best practices and develop innovative solutions for GME's unique role in bolstering the health care workforce and addressing Mississippi's physician shortage. Mississippi Mapper, an Insight Through Geography

We invite you to check out the Mississippi Mapper! Come, explore the publicly available interactive data on physicians, physician assistants and podiatrists using this GIS mapping tool, Mississippi Mapper. This data is owned by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure (MSBML) and supplied to you by the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce. As you work with the data, you may add background layers of demographics from multiple sources. There are two ways to view data; Public Data Access which is limited and does not include any personal information and a sign-up process which is required to access more definitive data. This access is not guaranteed and the access level granted will be on a case by case scenario in conjunction with collaboration with the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.

2023 Graduate Medical Education Summit

The Office Of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) hosted its Graduate Medical Education (GME) Summit on August 25, 2023 at HORNE Event Center in Ridgeland, MS. By hosting a summit for the exchange of creative concepts and educational innovations, we hope to advance health professions education toward a greater level of excellence and well-being. The free one-day event is designed to increase participants' understanding of key issues in GME through a combination of information sessions, practical advice, and GME updates.

OMPW Hosts Its First Chief Residents Workshop

The Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) sponsored its first Chief Residents Workshop on May 2, 2023 at Courtyard by Marriott Hattiesburg in Hattiesburg, MS and May 9, 2023 at Hotel Tupelo in Tupelo, MS.The workshop provided two locations that would best accommodate Chief Residents in North and South Mississippi. This workshop was designed to help prepare Chief Residents enter into their new position with fresh eyes and the means to develop their leadership abilities throughout the duration of their role.
